James Foulis and Theodore Moreau designed the original golf course as a 9-hole course in 1901. From 1910 to 1913, William Watson purchased an additional 55 acres and designed and oversaw the construction of 9 new holes. Donald Ross oversaw a renovation that took place between 1917 and 1919. Updates were made until 1924. The club’s membership commissioned David Esler in 2001 to restore the course features in the style of Donald Ross. In 2021, the club was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Ravisloe country club was founded in 1901 on the site of the Briggs farm by predominantly Jewish members of Chicago’s Standard Club after the first property choice belonged to a Dutchman named Ravisloot. Ravislow was chosen as the name by the membership, who eventually settled on Ravisloe. George Nimmons, the same architect who designed Olympia Fields’ clubhouse, designed the Spanish Mission-styled clubhouse in 1902. Dr. Claude Gendreau, a veterinary surgeon, purchased the club in 2008. You can learn more about Midlothian Meadows in another post.
