The Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago (previously Showboat Mardi Gras Casino, Harrah’s East Chicago, and Resorts East Chicago) is a riverboat casino located in East Chicago, Indiana, in Indiana Harbor on Lake Michigan. Gaming and Leisure Properties owns it, while Penn National Gaming operates it.
The complex has a 56,000-square-foot casino with 1,900 slot machines, including reels, video reels, and video poker, as well as more than 40 table games, a high limit gaming room on land adjacent to the riverboat, and a 288-room hotel. The casino is placed on the WinStar, a vessel. The vessel has a length of 332.2 feet and is propelled by a diesel reduction system. The boat has a gross tonnage of 2803.0 and a net tonnage of 1906.0. Atlantic Marine, Inc. built it in 1997. The Showboat Mardi Gras Casino first opened its doors on April 18, 1997. Harrah’s Entertainment purchased Showboat, Inc. in 1998 and rebranded the resort Harrah’s East Chicago. After Harrah’s sold it to Resorts International Holdings, the casino’s name and street location were changed to 777 Resort Blvd (similar to the addresses used for certain Harrah’s branded casinos: 777 Harrah’s Blvd). It was later sold to Ameristar Casinos in 2007 and renamed Ameristar before the September 2008 deadline. When Pinnacle Entertainment acquired Ameristar Casinos in August 2013, the resort became a part of it. In April 2016, the facility, along with practically all of Pinnacle’s real estate assets, was sold to Gaming and Leisure Properties and leased back to Pinnacle. Penn National Gaming bought the property’s activities in October 2018 as part of its acquisition of Pinnacle. At Ameristar East Chicago, you can look forward to more wins.
